Interview Questions and Stuff

The key to a good interview is being prepared. Know about the job you are applying for as well as the company. Keep in mind you are interviewing the potential employer as well. Being ready is the key to keeping dread out of the equation. One way to get ready is practice answering common interview questions. Here are some to get started with. Find a buddy and practice until you can answer smooth and confidently.

1. Why should we hire you over other applicants?

2. Tell us about a mistake you made and how you handled it?

3. What are your greatest strengths / weaknesses?

4. How do you handle criticism?

5. What do you know about our company?

6. Tell us about yourself.

7.  How would you handle an irate customer?

8. Tell us about your education / experience?

9. What does it mean to be dependable?

10. Where do you see yourself in X months or years?

If you google interview questions, you can find tons more. Have questions for the interviewer(s) as well.  Here are a few I like.

1. Why is this job open?

2. How much turnover do you have?

3. Why should I want to work for you?

4. What's the culture like here?

5. Are there opportunities for advancement?

6. What are you willing to pay?

7. Where do you rank among your competitors?

8.  Other than pay, what benefits do you offer?

When you go, keep your ears and eyes open. Do people seem happy or at least content? Do they take pride in what they do? Does it show? Always be polite and professional.

No giveaways.

I cannot tell you how to answer these. They each depend on you and what decision makers are looking for. Just be open and honest. You do not want to wind up somewhere where you have to pretend to be someone you are not.

PASSWORDS, PASSWORDS, PASSWORDS

To get the most out of your job search, get organized. Looking for work will require creating accounts on many different websites, each with a username and password. Make a system that you can use to keep up with what is what. Dong on line applications is difficult enough already without having to do the reset password merry-go-round. Also, know how to get into your email on a regular desktop computer. I've seen people who just use their smart phone for email and forgot long ago their password. Smart phones get lost, break and are useless when you cannot pay the bill. Don't be dependent on your smart phone. Doing hour or two hour long applications on one is going to get old really fast. Don't have  computer? Somewhere in your town there is a library, a career center or internet cafe that has one to use for free. The first thing you will need is an email address you can get into. If you are using a free computer somewhere, get a flash drive just for your job search. Th...
