From Earlier this year.
Getting a job is a process. There is almost no way around it. Yes, there's that lucky one who gets a job almost immediately but that's rare. Now, the rest of us have to do it the hard way, make a good resume, network, fill out seemingly endless applications / tests and go through interviews. It is not easy to stay upbeat as time goes by. There really is no magic number for the amount of time finding employment will be. It can be from a matter of days (very rare) to many months. It depends on your skills, the local economy and plain ole luck. There are people who still seek magic bullets and fabled unicorns. Here are a few of my favorites:
* I just need to talk to somebody. Yes, you may indeed be charming and charismatic but if you cannot / will not follow directions, settle in in for the long haul.
* I can do anything so I will apply for everything. Yes, given enough time and resources, you too can be an electrocardio physiologist or astrophysicist. It does not mean you are qualified now. Find stuff you are qualified to do and focus. It will be a lot easier and quicker.
* I have a Degree. And so do a lot of other well qualified people. A two or four year degree is a good start but not by itself a shortcut to employment (unless it is in something high demand like nursing). Add some related experience and you will get somewhere.
* I'm Old-School. I don't use computers and have no interest in learning how. I Just Need to Talk to Somebody. It is theoretically possible but unless you have a huge social network and reputation, good luck! Adapt to the times.
Network in person, go on line and apply apply apply and use your time wisely to build new skills. There is something good out there for you, just be prepared to work for it. That means putting time n effort in.
