Situational Awareness

There is no such thing as "Job Security." Yeah sure, my job is stable for now but we are all on the verge of a new age. Artificial Intelligence is here right now and more and more of our "jobs" are soon going bye-bye. So long cashiers. See ya warehouse peeps. It's been real OTR drivers. But it is not just these people. Computer programmers, customer service people, mechanics and even manager types may soon be replaced by AI machines who don't ask for time off, work for no pay and never sleep. This is not science fiction. It is here and now... and growing. I'm not optimistic. I hope I'm wrong.

Here in the USA, I think this will only widen the gap between rich and poor. This will have a huge impact on what is needed for wealth creation, stability. Those who own the AI will grow insanely wealthy, while the rest of us will fight among each other over an ever shrinking pool of "good jobs." Add three hundred million plus guns in this already volatile mix and watch as your Mad Max nightmare fantasy quickly manifests all across the USA. Our leadership is clueless. Meanwhile, in Washington the politicians wrangles over another non-solution to a non-problem; the border wall fiasco. The circus known as The United States must have stability to keep going. (Let's not forget climate change, nuclear proliferation or food and water security.) We should be future focused and not looking backwards to some golden age that never was. Few in Washington DC dare to look beyond the wealthy donor cycle of the next election. Serious problem are basically ignored putting us in deeper and deeper in danger. It does tie into careers and jobs.

I did not mean to get off on a tangent here on a blog about job searching but I think it is important to step out of the bubble of our own lives and take in a broader view of the ever-changing world we live in. What will these changes mean for us, our children and grand children? Big changes are on the way sooner than we think. How will they impact the world, the USA, your state, your city, your neighborhood, your family and you? Be proactive. Ask questions. Prepare. Shape the future. Don't let it run you over. Remember change is the only certainty.

PASSWORDS, PASSWORDS, PASSWORDS

To get the most out of your job search, get organized. Looking for work will require creating accounts on many different websites, each with a username and password. Make a system that you can use to keep up with what is what. Dong on line applications is difficult enough already without having to do the reset password merry-go-round. Also, know how to get into your email on a regular desktop computer. I've seen people who just use their smart phone for email and forgot long ago their password. Smart phones get lost, break and are useless when you cannot pay the bill. Don't be dependent on your smart phone. Doing hour or two hour long applications on one is going to get old really fast. Don't have  computer? Somewhere in your town there is a library, a career center or internet cafe that has one to use for free. The first thing you will need is an email address you can get into. If you are using a free computer somewhere, get a flash drive just for your job search. Th...
